Aarhus University hosts Korean-Danish space delegation
Aarhus University’s space researchers have opened a new channel to South Korea’s fast-growing space sector. At a workshop hosted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Danish and Korean partners explored opportunities for collaboration on small satellite missions, satellite communication, Earth observation, and future in-orbit demonstrations.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aarhus University welcomed a cross-sector delegation of space experts from Denmark and South Korea on 9 April 2025. The workshop was hosted as part of the Korean-Danish Network for Space Collaboration, a new network funded by the Global Innovation Network Programme (GINP) and led by DTU Space.
Participants included researchers and industry representatives from Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), KAIST SaTReC, CONTEC Space Group, and Innovation Centre Denmark (ICDK) in Seoul, alongside Danish partners from DTU Space, Space Inventor, and Sternula. From Aarhus University, the team was represented by Professor and vice director of SpaCe - Aarhus Space Centre, Rune Hylsberg Jacobsen, Jung Min Kim, and Hei Victor Cheng.
The workshop gave the Aarhus University team a first opportunity to introduce its expertise in small satellite mission design, satellite communication, and downstream Earth observation applications to key Korean institutions and companies. For Aarhus University, the meeting opens a direct channel into the Korean space ecosystem — a market where personal relationships are central to developing new research and commercial opportunities. Potential areas of future collaboration include joint research projects and in-orbit demonstration missions.
The Korean-Danish network will continue with a series of delegation visits, workshops, and a joint conference through 2026–2027, with the goal of identifying concrete project ideas and partnerships between research institutions and industry in the two countries.
