Leading DISCO-2: Cecilie Strømsnes at the Helm of a Remarkably Ambitious Student CubeSat
From physics student to team leader, Cecilie Strømsnes now heads one of Denmark’s most ambitious student satellite missions.
When far more students applied to the DISCO program than expected, her mix of scientific training and earlier management experience made her a natural fit to help guide the growing team. Today, she leads the DISCO-2 mission — a tightly packed, machine-learning-enabled CubeSat aimed at studying Greenland’s glaciers and inspiring a new wave of student-driven space innovation. Under her leadership, the project has become a catalyst for hands-on learning, new startups, and a stronger pipeline of young talent entering the Danish space sector.
