CMC has recently purchased a new Vibrating Sample Magnetometer for ultra-fast measurements of magnetization in materials. Magnetization is the magnetic response to an external magnetic field, i.e. the magnitude of the magnetic field established inside the material in relation to the external field. The magnetometer is fitted onto the PPMS instrument, which for years has been the centerpiece of the CMC laboratory for physical-properties characterization. It is installed within the first two weeks of May.
